Sulphur from Persian Gulf
Supply cutbacks and high prices
The Middle East producers are reportedly facing a sulphur production shortage in 2008 due to reduced supply of natural gas.Canadian suppliers, Shell/Husky, will also reduce sulphur exports to China. As result sulfuric acid price could increase in China during 2008.
Buyers have once again offered strong resistance to recent offers by international traders, as importers continue to perceive sulphur prices as too high. The resistance to paying high sulphur prices has led to more closures of sulphuric acid plants.
The Chinese demand for sulphur is expected to hit around 9.5m tonnes in 2008.
